FLOWERS AROUND THE CENTRE OF OUR VILLAGE TO BEAUTIFY THE STREET SCENE FOR EVERYONE

The Village Alms Houses in Clacton Road

Our Parish Council Chairman Sonia Grantham, suggested that it might be a good idea to show to a wider audience the effort made to beautify the Village for the benefit and pleasure, not only of our residents, but of the many thousands of visitors who come to St Osyth to holiday in static Caravans and Chalets and other holiday properties or using the many Bed and Breakfast opportunities that exist in the village and its environs. Hence this page now distributed to near 500 E-mail addresses, about 50 of which are outside the U.K.
Since this sounded a such a very good idea the webmaster went around the Village centre on the 31st July taking these pictures to give a flavour of St Osyth in Summer! It was difficult to decide what to photograph and there is much not shown. For example there are thirty ‘hanging baskets’ in the village on our lampposts, but this page is only showing six.
One of the summer sights quite early or late in the day, is to witness the watering and weeding activity, some with the aid of special vehicles equipped with a water tank and pump, but others from containers in their car boot and using a watering can!

Yes, even our Village toilets have their own summer show, but located in the shade it is not yet at its best

As above said, these pictures were all taken on last day of July 2014. This date in reality decides what plants will be seen at their best, spring plants have gone and autumnal plants yet to come. Whilst there are many beautiful displays of flowers in and around St Osyth and Point Clear, these pictures are concentrated on the Village centre.
Point Clear and St Osyth has a thriving Horticultural Society which holds three shows each year, the next being the Harvest Show on Saturday 30th August, but those volunteers who decorate the public open spaces, their properties and their businesses, deserve very special recognition for all their work

The Parish has provided three new flower tubs on The Bury. This picture is taken with the Priory as its ‘backdrop’
