HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY SPRING SHOW 2016

A view showing one of the flower display tables, looking over the kitchen craft cake making entries

This Spring Show is the first of the three shows that the Society organise each year for friendly competition between members and for the visual pleasure of our visitors. The Show was held on Saturday 2nd April 2016 and notwithstanding the very poor weather preceding the show, there were still nearly 200 individual entries.
Two Committee members, pictured below, were selling the fund raising raffle tickets, with appropriate prizes, a stall was allocated for plant sales and of course our canteen team providing excellent light refreshments coupled with homemade cakes, tea or coffee!

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words, so what do I need to say with such beauty! Alan Rolfe (left) our Martins Farm Warden with granddaughter admiring the entries.

A mosaic of flowers on the left and the real thing on the right. There are exhibits around you of cut flowers, pot plants, vegetables, home cookery, preserves, fine handicrafts including knitted articles, crochet, patchwork, soft toys, embroidery, modelling, pictures in pastel, oils, water colours and ink, photographs, and specific arrangements of Floral Art. We also have a special but separate section for children less than 16 years of age. If you live in St Osyth or Point Clear and are not already a member, then this is what you are missing!

I just cannot resist saying the sponge cakes below look as though one could eat the slice on top of them straight off the page

The picture left, show our Society Chairman Dulcie Evans in the process of handing out to successful members at this show Cups, Prizes and Awards won by their entries. The pictures below show a snapshot of others being rewarded for their efforts.
These shows are a major village event and our web pages on the shows have been well received at home and abroad. On this occasion there are 60 separate photographs to give viewers a flavour of the event.
If you read this in time on Saturday 14th May in the Village Hall Annexe is the Society Plant Sale from 10 to 11.a.m. where Dulcie and members will be offering Perennials, Vegetables, Bedding Plants etc for sale (see advert page 33 Parish Magazine) Unfortunately these are not for our ‘Web Visitors’ from abroad!

The picture above show the members and visitors remaining after the prize giving ceremony and the raffle draw had been completed, finishing the Spring Show until next year. Many in the picture are clutching their awards won today, Our Thanks go out to the Society Committee members and to the regular helpers who bring in the tables from storage and erect them for the shows, returning them to storage after each show.
