We have finally got to the end of a very busy term during which our children have surpassed themselves in terms of effort and commitment. Many of you will have attended the Junior performance of ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ and noticed just how tired some of our younger children especially were.
I spoke at the Leavers’ Barbecue on Tuesday night of the fact that this present Year 6 contains children who were in my last class as a permanent class teacher and as such, they mark the end of an era. I told our visitors about the special pride we have in this group. All Year 6 children tend to bring something special and unique and I acknowledged that this particular set will always be remembered as being an extremely supportive and caring group of children.
Throughout the year this has always been commented upon, the fact that they have a special bond between themselves and the way that all of the children have watched over and been concerned for individuals within those classes has been highly commendable. As I mentioned in Leaving Assembly, I sincerely hope and trust that this continues into their secondary schools and that this special camaraderie continues long into the future. The bulk order of CDs is being printed but we have been unable to meet the summer term deadline. These will be despatched early in the new term via brothers and sisters and posted if there is no direct link. Thank you very much for your order and your patience. Having heard the final master, I can assure you it is well worth the wait. While you are buying during the summer holidays, will you please be mindful of the school uniform requirements, especially that of ‘proper’ footwear. Trainers are not suitable for use regularly in school and are not acceptable. We shall have sweatshirts in stock and the school office will be open on the morning of Tuesday 4th September if you would like to call in to purchase. We would prefer not to have to do uniform sales on the first morning back if it is at all possible for you to call in at any other time, please.
As a point of interest over the concern on your part, we would just like to point out that the pupil for whom the emergency services were called out on Wednesday, is fine, but sore, and back in school. Our call to the emergency services was a precautionary measure - it was their control room, supported by the paramedic who decided the air ambulance should be despatched. We appreciate their response to the situation and the children have already indicated they would like to support the Essex Air Ambulance Service as our adopted charity next year. I would like to say a special thank you to those staff who are moving on - Mrs Cook, Miss Dines, Mrs Smith, Miss Forrest and Mrs Jordan, who left us a couple of weeks ago - I thank them for their hard work and commitment and wish them all well for the future. We return to school on Wednesday 5th September and we look forward to welcoming our new Reception children and the new members of staff who will be joining us.
The new class formation is detailed for you below: Class 1 Reception (Jan intake) KS1 Mrs Wallace Class 2 Reception (Sep intake) KS1 Miss Priestaff Class 3 Year 1 KS1 Miss Ward Class 4 Year 1 / 2 KS1 Mrs Baldwin Class 5 Year 2 KS1 Mrs Howe Class 6 Year 3 / 4 KS2 Miss Davis Class 7 Year 3 / 4 KS2 Ms Reid Class 8 Year 3 / 4 KS2 Miss Clitheroe Class 9 Year 5 / 6 KS2 Mrs Saunders Class 10 Year 5 / 6 KS2 Mr Jones Class 11 Year 5 / 6 KS2 Mr Twyman -------------------------------------------------------

SCHOOL COUNCIL MEETING Tuesday 16th July 12.12pm
Mr. Palmer, Mrs. Baldwin, Miss. Clitheroe and Mr. Twyman were invited and attended the meeting. Mrs. Emuss explained that Year 5 and Year 6 councillors had met to read and discuss the replies to the questionnaire. The detailed results were explained in the assembly the next day. Each of these councillors reported to the whole council on one aspect of the council’s work this year.
Jane Calm area and why we made it and how effective it had been.
Kyle Problem pot, how it was originally called the bully box and why we changed its name and how effective it had been.
Tomas The reason for the bus escorts, how they were appointed and its effectiveness. What were the problems?
Elizabeth Talked about the questionnaire, 164 replies and how Mrs. Emuss completed the questionnaire with Classes 3, 4 and 5. Councillors are known and what they do is recognised. The results were explained in more detail to everyone in an assembly. Ashley Future plans suggested by children via the questionnaire: quiet or calm classroom, school magazine, games to play at playtime inside and outside.
Pippa Explained about idea that school councillors who are year 5 should be able stay on for 2 years as extra councillors to explain last year’s work.
Sally Explained about the idea that the school council elections should be done as an election with campaigning and private voting. It was felt that the children should elect all councillors, as everyone now knew what was needed to be a member of the School Council. Mr Palmer thanked the School Council for their hard work and asked questions about some of the reports, the quiet room, the school magazine, the continuation of Year 5 councillors for a second year and how successful bus escorts had been. Mr Twyman agreed that the elections should be done in the same way across the school and should be like an election. Mrs Baldwin thanked the School Council for the help they had given Key Stage 1 children this year.
ART UNIT ON CHAIRS
The Middle School classes would be very grateful for any unwanted dining room or kitchen chairs as part of their art work this term is to modify and adapt chairs. Therefore if you are able to donate a chair, (it must still be in one piece and able to bear weight) then please contact the school office (820823) and leave a message for Miss Clitheroe, who will contact you shortly. Thank you.
