THE ORCHARDS HOLIDAY PARK Invites elderly residents to a CHRISTMAS LUNCH at ‘THE FERRYBOAT INN’.

The Father Christmas backdrop to the FerryBoat Inn’s stage.

Each year since 2003, The Orchards Holiday Park in collaboration with John Threadwell the Manager of the FerryBoat Inn, have offered a Christmas Lunch to retired residents living in Point Clear Bay. This was set in train by Gordon Frew when he was, for the first time the Company’s General Manager.
When Gordon left in July 2006 he left behind him a very good relationship with the majority of resident, making numerous small improvements to the area of the Bay which was of benefit to us all. Gordon Frew returned for another short period in 2011, but his Christmas Dinner invite continues and when I asked Gary Cook the present General Manager if there was going to be a Christmas invite, he said he was very keen to continue with such an invitation.
Much of our afternoon’s enjoyment is due to John Threadwell and his staff for not only were we met with a ‘drink on the house’ when we arrived, but each table had a selection of wine to go with the three course lunch, rounded off with coffee and Christmas Pudding, followed afterwards with entertainment, from three gentlemen and one lady, performing for our enjoyment.

THANK YOU Gary Cook, Orchards General Manager and John Threadwell the Manager of The FerryBoat Inn.

An early view of the bar area of the FerryBoat Inn. Ted wearing the red hat, welcomed residents as they arrived.

There was one long table. This from one end.

Before Lunch and

after the meal

The bar and lounge area was superbly decorated as it had been for a Christmas Party the Saturday just passed.

From a 1 p.m. start time, for the next three and a half hours to about 4.30 p.m. our local pensioners enjoyed themselves with conversation, well lubricated with wine for some, as it is not every day we meet one another. Some may meet walking their dog or going to the post office and casually pass each other, but this FerryBoat treat is a good time for all and a chance to catch up on the gossip!
Everybody was asked to sign two Christmas Cards, one for Gary Cook and the Orchards employees and another for John Threadwell to thank him for the effort put in by himself and his staff to make the event memorable for all attendees!
