MUSEUM OPEN DAY 2011
DISPLAYS AND ACTIVITIES

The open day on 21st August follows a pattern set over the past few years of inviting a display of military hardware, vehicles and equipment to be on show, with Napoleonic re-enactment troops showing, explaining then firing their cannon and period armament such as their rifles.
The weather that day was kind to the event, as for several days there had been very strong showers at unpredictable intervals, particularly during the afternoon, but a very good crowd attended to see the spectacle. The Trustees this year did charge a 1 per head to enter the museum, as against previous years when a notice was displayed requesting a donation from visitors leaving, as whilst the Museum is run by volunteers, who put in hours of work to keep the displays up to scratch, there remain many other items that must be met with hard cash!

This year the mood was set for visitors during the afternoon by the sound of the war time big bands (picture above), with music by Glen Miller , Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey and others. It did rain for a short while around 4 p.m. but by then the event was winding down. The museum had once again organised an enjoyable event for all who attended. Our thanks to the museum volunteers!
