Holy Week and Easter
Holy Week got off to a good start with wonderful weather for our Palm Sunday Procession. Even Sixpence the donkey behaved herself as we processed from the Parish Church to the Methodist Church. It was strange beginning our worship in one place and finishing it in another, but everyone found it enjoyable and Sixpence discovered just how flavoursome Palm Crosses are!!
Throughout Holy Week we had daily services as we followed Christ’s journey from being hailed King on Palm Sunday, through the Last Supper and his washing his disciples’ feet, His betrayal, arrest, trial and finally His Crucifixion on Good Friday. In stark contrast to the sadness of that day, on Easter Sunday we had a great celebration of His Rising to New Life! The Church looked wonderful with some magnificent decorations (thanks to all who helped), the children scoffed their Easter eggs, and the Vicar got the eggs they didn’t find!
The A.P.C.M.
This took place just after Easter. Some new people were elected onto the P.C.C. Church Wardens for the coming year are Yrina Morgan-Kendall and Sonia Grantham. Treasurer - Barry Hills continues, as does Tom Grantham as Secretary. Reports on the many activities over the past years were given and the Vicar spoke about his experiences of the last 10 months and his hopes and dreams for the future.
School Communion
On April 10th at 8.00am a Communion Service was held in St Osyth School. This sort of service had not been held there for some time but it being a Church of England School the Vicar was pleased to be invited to hold a service there. It is to be held regularly, on the Second Wednesday of each month during Term, lasts 20 minutes and there is an open invitation to Governors, Staff, parents and senior pupils of the school.
BEATING THE BOUNDS
Following up last month’s article may I remind you that on Sunday, May 5th we are ‘Beating the Bounds’ of part of our Parish Boundary. Beginning at 12.30 from Stone Point (the top of Point Clear) we will walk up the estuary path to The Dam and then on to The Flag, once again following the estuary and public footpaths. Stopping for prayers, rests, refreshments, and simply to enjoy the views en route we will finish when we get there! Please bring what refreshments you think you will need. If it is wet we still walk! What we need to do in advance is co-ordinate cars so that we are not stranded a long way from our vehicles! Brenda Lord is going to arrange how this is done, as well as arrange for people who need lifts. (See the report on the Event )
COFFEE MORNING
At a recent coffee morning £165 was raised for the Bell Tower Fund. Thank you to Mavis and Frank Cheesbrough for asking us into your home yet again.
Our next fund raising event will again be in Darcy Road when we will be joining the St Osyth in Bloom event. We will be having a ‘Tasting Table’ where you will be able to taste the cakes and if you like them the recipes will be for sale.
Please also come along to the Country Dancing in Church Square, 6.30 to 8.30pm on Saturday 1st June. We have a small band with a caller and a barbecue. Any money raised will again go to the Tower Fund.
