LINDA RICHARDS RETIREMENT

From Left to right: Neil Williams our Parish Clerk; Colleen Peverell; District Councillor John White; Sonia Grantham Parish Council chairman; Lynda McClure our Administrator; LINDA RICHARDS; Lesley Fuller; Julie Ward; George Gibbs; Jean Smith; Alan Rolfe and John Kemp

On Tuesday 11th June the members of the Parish Council (above) gather to say goodbye to Linda Richards, who has worked with us, first a Parish Clerk, then as Deputy Clerk and finally as our finance officer for almost ten years!

Sonia Grantham gave her thanks to Linda, then asked Michael Talbot to say a few words as the Parish Chairman who appointed Linda on 30th October 2003.
He said her first Council Meeting as clerk was the last Council Meeting of 2003. Unfortunately she found that domestic problems intervened, including the poor health of her Husband Peter, which caused her to speak to him about resigning her post on compassionate grounds.
This coincided with Rosalind Dalton leaving the post of Deputy Clerk and Linda asked if she could apply for that post, as it would not involve evening meetings. The Council then appointed Linda as Deputy Clerk.
The Parish advertised for a Clerk and appointed Roger Squirrell who took up office on 1st September 2004 with Linda as his deputy. From my point of view said Michael, we got two officers, both of whom could carry out the duty of Clerk if required, without paying for two Clerks!
Linda was appointed the responsible Parish Officer for finance, a post she held until her retirement, latterly working from home.

Sonia, present Chairman, Linda and Michael a past Chairman.

Michael continued by reminding members that for a long time Linda suffered with back problems but the various medications she was prescribed and the procedures she undertook gave little relief but she continued to turn up at the office for work when many people would have used the sick pay scheme to have recuperative time off.
He used to tell her off a bit saying she should not come in if she was in pain, but his words fell on stony ground.

Finally he said to Linda, you have been a loyal and true servant of St Osyth Parish Council and our residents. I am sure we all join in wishing you a pain free retirement and many years to enjoy your time with Peter, your children and your grandchildren. We all wish you the very best for your retirement! Applause!
