TO CELEBRATE THE SEVENTIETH YEAR OF THE POINT CLEAR AND ST OSYTH HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY
Special Item of the AGM Agenda.

The significant event of the night. Chairman Dulcie Evans cuts the cake, decorated to celebrate 70 years since the Society was founded (see cake right hand corner) with her committee standing behind her in support!

On Tuesday 20th October 2015 the Society’s Annual General Meeting was held in the Village Hall annexe, but overriding all the normal business was the knowledge that we were celebrating our Horticultural Society’s SEVENTIETH BIRTHDAY, a very significant event in our village recent history. It is one of the few organisations whose name puts Point Clear before St Osyth simply because the Society began in Point Clear.
The Society exists to encourage the urge that people have to grow their own flowers and vegetables, channelling that interest into friendly competition between members, with Cups and Trophies awarded at all of the Societies three annual shows. Cash prizes are also won by the best exhibits in the many classes but the prize money is 40p for a 1st place; 30p for a second place and 20p for a third place, so we do not have competition millionaires, just very proud members with entries judged worth a prize!

I could not resist showing a picture of the iced cake with Wheelbarrow, Watering Can and Lawn Mower decorations in the first square then next, its real purpose showing the knife making the first real cut so those present could get at its contents! Yum Yum!

Sonia Grantham, St Osyth Parish Council Chairman and our guest speaker for the evening.

Sonia Grantham was our speaker for this year’s AGM and as she said to the meeting, she could not think of a suitable subject to speak about and then to answer question raised, until the thought struck her that: ‘all those present will be village members, so what about talking about their Parish Council!’

Most of you reading this page will know Sonia as Chairman of the Parish Council since May 2007 when she took over from District Councillor John White. She spoke for a while about how the Parish Council does its business then she handed everyone present a live copy of the last Council Meeting Agenda, taking those present through the decisions and the reasons behind each decision made by that meeting.
A celebration buffet (right) was an enjoyable part of the evenings activity!
