HARVEST SHOW 2009.

A selection of members and visitors gathered round one of the tables for a photo
opportunity at the end of the show.
Successful competitors can be seen holding their trophies

The village Hall saw another successful show from our Horticultural Society on 12th September 2009, the last show of the year. There were many entries under the different categories of Flowers, Vegetables, Cookery, Needle work, Wine making, Painting, Photographs and special Children’s entries.
The weather with the unpredictably changeable summer, with a hot June, Rainy and cold July, windy August with sun towards the end and now a mild September with some late Indian Summer days made preparing for the Show difficult in addition the date of the show had to be changed at the last minute so some entries, which had been timed to perfection for display earlier, were slightly past their best. With the above caveat, the show was a brilliant display of all that is best in Point clear and St Osyth gardens, greenhouses and dare I say front rooms!

Below: Pictures the four tables down the centre of the Hall.

I say “What do you think of this orchid?”

“I wonder how they get them this size?”

A miniature display not to exceed 4 inches

Shield presented for most points for vegetables

A ‘Beer Barrel’ trophy for best wine entries

Certificate of merit for a younger entrant

In the background is young Jessica Underwood sorting out the  prizes and Nicky Underwood, Vice-Chairman with Christine Harman.
These two ladies are our Show Secretaries

Sue White pleased those present by having previously agreed to present the prizes. Sue is Chairman of the St Osyth Women’s Institute and a lifelong resident of the village. Here she is presenting Kevin Jackson with the cup awarded for the most points in all three 2009 shows. Next to Kevin is our Chairman Dulcie Evans

Trophies and cups to be presented this day.

Small table with plants for sale.

Side table for special displays

Members and visitors sitting during the presentation of awards and prizes to entry winners, to be followed by a raffle draw. If not a horticultural prize winner, then perhaps a raffle prize as a consolation!
