VILLAGE MAGAZINE COMPETITION

THE Village Magazine Competition is run by the Rural Community Council of Essex every year.  Last year over 60 magazines were entered in three categories, the monthly, less than monthly and new entries.

Congratulations to Great Bentley who won the monthly magazine with Lindsell News runner up.  We were joint third with Pleshey Parish News.

Here are the judges’ remarks for us:
Content: 15 (Maximum: 20)
Comprehensive coverage of events with a quite high proportion of lengthy articles such as the arrival of the Time Team in the village in 2004.  I like the letters page.

Layout: 10 (Maximum: 15)
Good use of illustrations to break up the text.  Parish Council report for April 2004 very professionally produced.

Design/Production: 9 (Maximum: 15)
While most pages are well designed, the front covers are less effective on account of a mixture of styles - a line drawing of the church, a photograph and an indistinct title heading.
