JANET MANSFIELD

Mrs Mansfield, as all her past pupils will remember calling her, taught at St Osyth School for over 20 years.  She was an excellent teacher who genuinely liked children and very much enjoyed her work.  Janet was a hard working, conscientious and dedicated teacher.

She took many extra out-of-school clubs, games and activities and was fully involved in all the many ‘happenings’ in the school.  Janet was popular with staff, pupils and all those she came in contact with.  She was always helpful, understanding and sympathetic and interested in everyone around her.  We were always a happy school, because we all got on so well together.

Janet was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and many will remember her three children, Peter, Catherine and Alison who, for a while, were at the school with her.  She came to St Osyth, when John, her husband, became Deputy Head of Priory Meadow School, Rochford Road, St Osyth.  The family lived in St Osyth for many years.

Janet really enjoyed life.  She was sociable, outgoing, cheerful and noted for her infectious laugh.  She pursued many interests locally, particularly sport.  Janet was progressively very ill over a period of four years, but never complained even when she knew that she was not going to live much longer.  Being a very positive person she did not wish her friends to dwell on sorrow at her death, but to remember her as she was and celebrate her life.

The number of children’s lives she has influenced for the good is very many.
All the pupils, staff, friends and contacts will, I know, feel like we do - that it was a pleasure and privilege to have known Janet for so many years and to have been her friend.

Janet Mansfield was a very special and very brave lady who will be sadly missed.  We will all have treasured memories of her.  God’s blessing on her.

Ray and Edris Stratford

Janet passed away peacefully after illness on 1st January 2005.  She taught at St Osyth School from 1972 - 1992.
