Keep St. Osyth Tidy.

As I reported in the October issue our working party led by Sandy Kemp with colleagues Brenda Lord, Collene Peverell and Ken Miles instigated a competition in the school to design a poster to help the ‘keep our village tidy’ campaign.  The winning poster by Laura Gardner, which features a hedgehog with various pieces of rubbish such as crisp bags and sweet wrappers stuck on its spines, has now been turned into 2000 window and car stickers. Sandy gave the local press an interview on the subject when photographs were taken at the school on 6th November featuring Laura with a presentation copy of the sticker.

One of these stickers is included with this month’s St. Osyth News. Lets see them all used!!

St. Osyth Business Park.

This working party led by Stuart Byers has now completed its work. The plans submitted by landowners have been forwarded to the planning department at Weeley, with the Council’s preferred choice indicated.
Formal acknowledgement has been received from Tendring to say that the submission had been received within the timescale for making such a submission, and the detail would be considered by them, appearing in the Deposit Draft Review of the Local Plan which is due to be published in the Summer of 2202.

Jubilee Celebrations
.
The small group who agreed to work with Melvin Coe, of The St. Osyth Business Association (SOBA) met on 7th November. You will remember from last months report that Melvin had addressed a Village meeting which suggested making a major event on the weekend 3/4th August for village celebration of the Queens Golden Jubilee. I understand that this event is now suggested for the actual Jubilee holiday form 1st to 4th June. More of this later.

Visiting the Parish Office.

Most readers know where the Parish Office is situated and that Allison Bond, our Clerk, is usually in attendance until around 1 p.m. I am sure readers will appreciate that Allison is always willing to greet visitors and answer phone queries but as Chairman I have had to suggest to her that perhaps she should try to minimise these calls on her time.
What has prompted me to say this is the knowledge that on too many occasions she is taking necessary work home because she has been unable to complete it in the office due to these calls and visits.
I would appeal to residents that if you have a query, particularly one of a general nature, that you contact your local Parish Council member for him or her to find the answer for you, rather than divert the Clerk from her normal administrative duties.

Village Emergency Plan.

Another Job Finished! This small group led by Stuart Byers were compiling a list on behalf of Tendring District Council. We asked if you were a nurse who could offer your services or could you speak a foreign language, did you have available machinery such as generators or heavy plant, did you own a boat that could be used for rescue?  This task in now complete and our Parish list has gone, in confidence, to Tendring. I suppose the events of October 11th rather crystallize the mind on the subject of civil emergencies.

The Bury.

Mr. Sargeant, the owner of the Priory, has begun work on repairing the potholed surface of the Bury. Can I ask residents to be extra vigilant when using the Bury, NOT to accidentally drive over the restored and seeded areas of land until the grass has grown again? We will be suggesting to Mr Sargeant that perhaps spikes with ropes or tape should mark the boundary of the restored areas.

Michael Talbot, Parish Council Chairman.
