The Dumont Luncheon Club provides a hot meal every Thursday to seventy or eighty elderly people living in Point Clear or the near boundary and arranges the ‘pick-up’ of many of these residents who would otherwise be unable to leave their home transporting them to and from the Point Clear Community Association’s Dumont Hall. Tendring Community Transport provides the service
This week the Lunch was a ‘Christmas Lunch’, a very special occasion in Point Clear and eagerly looked forward to by those attending. The Luncheon Club also invite guests who have generally had some connection with their activities during the year and they are pictured below. Barbara Francis the retired founder Chairman attended her first meeting as a guest instead of the ‘Master of Ceremonies'.

This is where the workers live and the meal is organised. The Hall has first to be laid out by some whilst the meal is prepared, and just for the record, some of these volunteers started their day of volunteering work, four or five hours earlier that the 12.30 p.m. start time given to those attending to eat!

DUMONT LUNCHEON CLUB
CHRISTMAS LUNCH.
A brilliant service to the elderly living in and around Point Clear and for some perhaps the main Christmas event for them this year.

Just to wet your appetite, a sample lunch with sight but no tasters!

Tina Edwards announcing the afternoons programme to all present

This table is filled with former volunteer helpers now retired, but invited back to be waited on, instead of waiting on others!

Three members of staff overflowing from the staff table which can be seen in two of the bottom three pictures.

Sonia Grantham Parish Council Chairman and Brenda Lord from Earls Hall Farm, who for a number of years has donated the turkeys from her farm.

Barbara Francis the ‘Founder ‘ of the Club with Marjorie Talbot wife of our Local Councillor. Barbara retired earlier this year after ten years as Chairman.

Harold, our former caretaker and wife Dolly with Maureen Dorree from the PCCA.

Table entertainment with old well know melodies played by Ernestine Hedger .

Each table place had a raffle ticket and an individual Christmas Present. This table shows the prizes in this ‘free’ draw.

A Christmas dinner, with choice of wine or soft drinks, Christmas pudding and/or mince pies with cream or custard, After Eight Mints, a Christmas Card and a personal present. These volunteers, who selflessly give their time and effort, clearly show by their actions that they truly know the meaning of Christmas and intend to let all present in on their secret!

This long table is set for the staff to eat themselves, after everybody else has
been served. Our thank go out to them with our Christmas Greeting
A Happy Christmas and a Healthy New Year!

Some of the staff gathered together with Ernestine Hedger playing the piano accordion
to lead the sing along
