THE SMACK & BARGE EVENT

On Saturday 8th September the annual sailing event for Fishing Smacks and Thames Barges took place. The vessels sailed from Brightlingsea at 8.30 a.m. and took a round trip ending back at Brightlingsea.

The photograph at the top shows the fishing smacks on their outward journey passing Mersea Island in the background.
The photograph immediately above shows the Thames Barges preparing to assemble for the start of their event near the Brightlingsea spit bouy.

A number of close up photographs of last years event can be viewed by clicking Barge Event. They will take a few moments to download.
