Congratulations to Martin and Julie who had another daughter, Maiya Julie, on March 2nd.  A sister for Eva and Lundy.

Thank you to all those who have given donations for the magazine.  This has enabled us to have this coloured front cover.  The arrangement was done by Libby Fisher for the Flower Festival last year, where the theme was ‘Businesses’.  This illustrates ‘The Clergy’ and seemed particularly suitable for our Easter issue.

If you don’t live in the village and would like to give a donation towards the magazine, we will then be able to have more attractive front covers.  Cash or cheques should be made payable to St Osyth News and sent to me. (See Who’s Who.)

We are very sorry to be losing David Jones, who has written ‘Some Things to do in the Garden’ for about 10 years - thank you David.  He also writes the Historical Society notes from which he is also retiring.  Welcome to Margery Collis who is taking over in May with ‘Things to do’.

Thank you to the reader of the St Osyth News who has sent in a moving account of his D-Day memories.  Is there anyone else in the village who would like to write of their memories?

Soon the ‘garden visiting’ season will start.  Jacqui has written about Marks Hall, near Coggeshall, which is well worth a visit.  The National Garden Scheme’s ‘Yellow Book’ lists thousands of gardens around the country raising money for charity and is now on sale.  County leaflets can be found in libraries and tourist offices.  Springvale, St Osyth is open May 1st & 2nd.

This summer we will have a Medieval theme to the magazine.  Our village has many medieval houses and the Priory and church were developed over this period.  In July we have the different types of Morris Dancing and the Medieval Fayre outside the church with crafts and archery.  Keep the 9 days from 17th July free to enjoy the various events of the Festival Week, which ends with the Historical Society’s exhibition.

As you will see from their advert, Entrac have moved.  It was at the time they were printing this magazine which they have been doing each month for the past 13 years.  We wish them well in their new premises.

Deadline for the May magazine will be Monday 19th April, late this month because of Easter, but please let me know in plenty of time if you want more room than usual or have an article you want to put in.  I still have to plan it early and the magazine gets full very quickly.
