MAKING AN EASTER EGG TREE

Find a small bare branch or twist wire as in the picture and put firmly in a pot of sand or soil.

The eggs need to be blown to make them lighter.  Make a hole at the broad end and at the top and slowly shake the egg out into a bowl.  They used to be blown, but this is probably frowned on by ‘Health & Safety’!

The eggs can be coloured with vegetable colouring, paints and felt tip pens.  Make patterns or faces or whatever you fancy.  Attach by cotton with glue and put on the tree.

WHY EGGS ?

Because the egg is the sacred symbol of the spring.  It stands for rebirth, new life, and new hope.

Long ago, even before Christianity came, there was always a festival at this time of year, when the sun at last triumphed over the cruel and dreary powers of winter.  And always the egg - the embodiment of life - has been a central part of the spring festival, gaily decorated and full of promise for happiness, good health and good fortune.

So every Easter-time, decorate your eggs gaily and hand on the tradition to your children.  An egg is as full of meaning as it is of nourishment!
