ST OSYTH CRICKET CLUB

The opening weeks of the new cricket season, mostly played under encouragingly sunny skies, have seen St. Osyth 1st XI battling hard to find their feet in the much tougher environment of the Osborne Cricket League First Division.

Home matches against Elmstead Grasshoppers and defending champions Abberton both ended in defeat, before the 1st XI broke its duck with a priceless win at Great Bromley, achieved with a seriously depleted side.

Captain Craig Scott has found some form with both bat and ball, and Graeme Baker has been getting among the wickets with two four wicket returns already, but much more consistency will be needed from the batsmen if we are to compete effectively at this level.

The first team will spend plenty of time at Cowley Park in June with challenging fixtures coming up against Eight Ash Green, West Bergholt and Halstead, who have begun the season strongly.

The Second XI have played just once at the time of writing losing to Great Horkesley in a match which nonetheless will be remembered for a fine performance from members of the Prior family.  Father and son Karl and Richard enjoyed a stand of 133, with Karl recording his first ever hundred, before Richard’s younger brother Daniel aged only 11 got into the act by helping himself to a couple of wickets.

Quite a number of our Under 13 colts were called into action for this game, and will be looking forward to their own matches in the Castle Under 13 League which get underway towards the end of May.

With plenty of cricket ahead the club remains keen to welcome new players of all ages and experience.  To find out more call me on 820495 (evenings).
