On Sunday 3rd June 2012 the Clacton-on-Sea Branch of the Rotary Club prepared and later organised the lighting of the Armada Beacon situated on the Orchard Holiday Park land in Point Clear Bay. We thank the Orchards for the use of the site and the refurbished beacon which replaced the wooden structure that had come to the end of its days. John White led a small team of Rotary members who all made the evening a great success. As some of the pictures below will show the event was attended by some 300 individuals.
For visitors north of the border I quote: It's a braw, bricht, moonlicht nicht - as we were blessed with the full moon!

A fork lift truck being used to load the beacon

Fire extinguishers were on site in case of any emergency

A full Moon overlooked our proceedings

Some of the younger children arriving early to get a seat

Sonia Grantham Parish Chairman and Mr Nick Lee
President of Clacton Rotary, have just lit the beacon

Carefully placed in the Beacon the blaze was a
roaring inferno after only a few minutes
