Exhibition Of New Conservation Area Plans For The Village

On the right hand side is Sonia Grantham Parish Council Chairman, welcoming the public (behind the camera) to the exhibition boards showing changes proposed to the Village Conservation Area. This event was held in the Parish Church on 29th March 2010. Next to her is Mr David Andrews, Essex County Council Heritage Manager and Mr Phil Hornby, the Senior Officer in charge of Heritage and Conservation in the Tendring District. The Exhibition Boards will remain in the Church for the whole of April and there is a questionnaire for the public to complete stating their personal views on the new extended Conservation Area.
The Parish Council would request that visitors SIGN THE BOOK to show how many residents and others took the trouble to attend.

There are four display boards, each showing a slightly different aspect of a Conservation Area appraisal. This one deals with the Management Plan.

This board covers the appraisal process and saying that our area is in a good condition and that modern development, which has been limited in extent, has not affected the conservation area.

Here we read that the Planning Act 1990 placed an obligation on our District Council to designate places of special 'Historical Interest'. St Osyth was first designated in 1969, long before the obligation was placed on the District Council.

We are told that conservation is not just about individual buildings, but about everything that surrounds them to give a special character to the area. This makes an Historic unit.
